This rich chocolate fondue is the ideal indulgence for a night in with your sweetheart, a party with friends, or a celebration. It's extremely rich, intensely chocolatey, and stunningly easy to prepare. Trust me, even if you've never prepared a fondue, this recipe will lead you to success.

I initially found this recipe at a friend's fondue party. Everyone was abuzz about it, and I knew I simply had to make it. Over the years, I've tweaked it to make it my own by adding a touch of vanilla and a pinch of salt (don't knock something 'til you try it!). The slight flavor tweaks elevate this fondue to a whole new level. Be amazed! Be divine!

📖 Instructions

  1. First things first, prepare your chocolate. Chop up the chocolate into small, roughly equal pieces. This helps it melt smoothly and evenly. I usually just hack at it with a knife, but you do you. If you're using a really high-quality chocolate bar, take your time! You'll want to appreciate those beautiful chocolate pieces.
  2. Next, set up your double boiler (or improvise—a heatproof bowl nestled over a simmering pot of water works great). Add the heavy cream and milk to the top part of the double boiler (or your bowl). Heat it over low heat, stirring occasionally, until it’s gently warmed. Don't let it boil—that would be a disaster! Aim for a nice, cozy temperature.
  3. Once your cream mixture is warm, remove it from the heat. Add the chopped chocolate to the warm cream, a little at a time. Stir constantly with a whisk until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. A perfectly smooth, glossy chocolate is what you want. It might take a few minutes of very gentle and patient stirring.
  4. For extra flavor, and because I’m extra, add in a pinch of salt and a splash of vanilla extract at this stage. Stir well to combine. The salt enhances the chocolate's sweetness, trust me! It's like magic, I swear!
  5. Once your chocolate is gloriously smooth, transfer it to your fondue pot or a serving bowl. If you want it super silky, you might even consider using an immersion blender. Not necessary but impressive. Set it on a table and add the serving platter. Have fun choosing your dippers!
  6. Arrange your dippers attractively around the fondue. Strawberries are classic, but get creative! Marshmallows, pound cake, cookies, even pretzels are all great options. Have a mini buffet set up!
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy! Dip, sip, and savor every moment. This is my favorite part! Invite friends or family, because sharing this is half the fun.
  8. Have I mentioned how much I love this recipe? It always makes a big impression. Last time my niece was over she said it was like 'magical unicorn chocolate' which, really, is the highest form of praise in my world. My point is, enjoy this, my friend, enjoy it all.

📝 Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate. If you don’t have a double boiler, a heatproof bowl placed over a simmering pot of water will work too. Just make sure that the bowl doesn't touch the water!
